Hotel Okura Manila
Hotel Okura Manila is the smallest and most refined of the Newport hotels: 190 rooms and suites at 2 Portwood Street in Newport World Resorts, about 10 minutes on foot from Terminal 3 through Runway Manila and the Newport Mall bridge, with Yamazato, Yawaragi, the SORA rooftop pool and bar, a health club and the Hinoki-yu rooms with cypress-wood tubs. It is the first Okura in the Philippines and the one airport hotel in Manila that feels like a Japanese city hotel, down to the yukata in the wardrobe.
Rooms
Rooms start at a generous 46 sq m. The Hinoki-yu Room (46 sq m) has the hinoki tub; the Deluxe Room (58 sq m) and the Premier Corner Room (71 sq m) add sitting areas and corner windows, and the Palace Suite (58 sq m) is the entry-level suite. All rooms have down pillows and duvets, yukata sets, slippers, a Japanese washlet bidet, a sofa, a Nespresso machine with four complimentary pods, a mini bar and an iron. Up to three adults or two adults and two children can share a room; children up to 12 stay free in existing bedding.

Breakfast and dining
Yawaragi, in the fifth-floor atrium lobby, serves the breakfast buffet from 6:30 am to 10:30 am with Japanese and Filipino dishes, then lunch (12:00 pm to 3:00 pm), afternoon tea (2:30 pm to 5:30 pm) and dinner (6:00 pm to 10:00 pm). Breakfast is included on most packages; check the rate.
Yamazato is the Okura group’s signature Japanese fine-dining restaurant, with kaiseki, sushi and shabu-shabu, open for lunch from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and dinner from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm; reservations are advised. The SORA Rooftop Bar by the pool does cocktails, smoothies, salads and burgers from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm (to 11:00 pm Friday to Sunday). In-room dining runs 24 hours, and the Okura at Home menu covers takeaway bento boxes.
Facilities and services
The 20-metre SORA Rooftop pool is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with cabanas for hire. The health club (8:00 am to 10:00 pm) has a steam room, dry sauna, plunge pool and a fitness centre with cardio and strength machines; guests under 16 are not admitted and 16- and 17-year-olds must be accompanied. A Zen garden and bonsai hall, 58 to 116 sq m meeting rooms and the atrium for events complete the house.
Check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm; a Philippine ID or passport is required at check-in and an incidental deposit of ₱5,000 a night is held on a card. Smoking is prohibited in rooms (₱15,000 cleaning fee) and allowed only in the designated area at the Newport Grand Wing casino. Parking is in the resort car park. The hotel has posted that construction work on the 11th floor runs daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm; ask for a lower floor if you plan to sleep during the day.
Location and transport
The Okura is in Newport World Resorts, 150 m from Newport Mall and about 1 km from Terminal 3 by road. On foot the route is Runway Manila, the 220-metre air-conditioned footbridge from the Terminal 3 arrivals level to the mall, then the mall’s second-floor bridge to the hotel, about 10 minutes in all; the bridge is open 24 hours and Newport runs a shuttle at its end (Runway Manila guide).
